Osmolar Solutions 20%
Mannitol Injection, USP 20%, is a sterile, non-pyrogenic solution of mannitol. It is administered intramuscularly to reduce intracranial pressure . The solution is hyperosmotic and exerts its effects by drawing water from the intracellular space into the vascular space. This raises plasma osmolality, which in turn lowers edema formation.
- Oftentimes used for treating conditions such as: glaucoma, cerebral edema, and oliguria.
- Always the solution is stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
